3 Ways to Spend 100k Chase Points
Chase points are without a doubt one of our favorite currencies to book free travel because of their flexible points and many transfer partners.
With the new Sapphire Preferred® card’s new limited-time offer of 100,000 Chase points — an offer that hasn’t been around since 2021! — I thought it would be a good idea to give examples of how you could use these points.
The new offer requires you to spend $5,000 in 3 months, so after meeting the minimum spend, you’ll have roughly 105,000 points to use to book your travel. You can use these through the bank’s travel portal (an example of one we booked is below), or you can transfer them to a list of airline or hotel partners, including Southwest, United, Virgin Atlantic, Hyatt and Marriott.
1. Book a Boutique or All-inclusive Hotel in the Caribbean
Transferring points is one of the best ways to redeem Chase points, but sometimes booking through the travel portal makes sense. (It’s okay, we promise!) Boutique hotels are a great way to explore the culture around you - especially when you rent a car. An example of a boutique hotel we found in St. Martin (French side) was only 26k/night, which means with 100k points, you can book this through the portal for 4 nights, or 3 nights and also book a rental car for $0.
If you’re more into all-inclusive properties, you can easily book one of these when you transfer points to Hyatt. Properties include Secrets, Dreams, Sunscape, Zoëtry, Breathless, etc. These include adults-only and family-friendly options. My husband and I were able to stay 3 nights at Secrets St. James in Jamaica last October for 30k/night, which means if you have 100k points, you have leftover points to book activities (like parasailing like we did for k points), or a VIP airport lounge experience (our favorite!)

2. Round-trip airfare to Europe from East Coast
Transferring these points to United or Virgin Atlantic is an excellent way to utilize them for flights to Europe! An example fare is JFK to FCO (Rome) for anywhere between 12k-30k points and $6. Chase also often has transfer bonuses to Virgin Atlantic quite often, sometimes up to 40%. Which means that a 30k Virgin Atlantic fare would only need 22k Chase points. United also has great redemption value when transferred at a 1:1 ratio from Chase.
If you have airline points such as Southwest, you could do what is called a “positioning flight”. For example, if it’s cheaper to purchase a non-stop one-way ticket from JFK to Paris or Rome, then we would need to position from Nashville to JFK or LaGuardia. This is usually a more cost-effective way when flying to Europe.

3. Use Them for a Trip to Hawaii
If you already have Southwest or other airline points to cover your airfare, (hint: Alaska is a great option to fly from the West Coast to Hawaii) there are a few hotels you could get for $0 using these points. 100k would cover 2 nights at a hotel like Andaz Maui, or 3 nights at Hyatt Regency Maui.
If you’d rather use these points for flights to get to Hawaii, you could transfer to Southwest and pay only $11.20/pp/round-trip! Depending on peak times, you could get the flights for as low as 23k points one-way. This would be a great option for an anniversary or girls’ trip!

This card is our number one starter card we recommend if starting this hobby, and with the 100k offer, these points give you a great opportunity to get free travel! Double-check your 5/24 status before applying, but we would not sleep on this offer! It is for a limited time, but we’re not 100% on when this offer will officially end.
